Special Inspector

(Experience Required)


Special Inspectors must have experience as a Field Technician. ICC certifications require the individual to be working in the construction industry for a certain amount of years before qualifying to receive an ICC certification (requirements vary upon the type of ICC Certification)

  • Reinforced Concrete
  • Structural Masonry
  • Spray Applied Fireproofing
  • Prestressed Concrete
  • Structural Steel and Bolting
  • Structural Welding
  • Commercial Building
  • Other Various Code Certifications


Special Inspectors are responsible for verifying that the Contractor is constructing the project according to the approved plans and specifications.


Field Technician

(Entry level job, must be 18+ years old)


Field Techs go to specifics job sites to perform testing and sampling on the materials that are being placed in the field. Field Techs also collect and create test specimens to be tested in the laboratory.


Field Techs are responsible for sampling and testing the material on site and verifying that the material is within the project specifications.


  • Soil Compaction Testing
  • Asphalt Compaction Testing
  • Soil and Aggregate Sampling
  • Coring (Asphalt and Concrete)
  • Fresh Mix Concrete Testing and Sampling (Slump, Air Content, Test Specimens)
  • Fresh Mix Light Weight Concrete Testing and Sampling (Slump, Air Content, Unit Weight, Test Specimens)


Field Technicians can progress on to become Special Inspectors

  • G.P.R.
  • Ultrasonic
  • Magnetic Particle
  • Liquid Penetrant
  • Thermal Imaging
  • Floor Flatness/Level
  • Anchor Pull Testing
  • Masonry Shear Testing
  • Rebound Hammer (Schmidt)

Laboratory Technician

(Entry level job, must be 18+ years old)


Lab Techs work in the laboratory and perform various tests on the materials received.

Lab Techs are responsible for running one or more tests on a sample/specimen. The following are the tests that are performed inside the laboratory.


  • Proctor
  • Gradation
  • Atterberg Limits (Plasticity Index)
  • L.A. Abrasion
  • C.B.R. (California Bearing Ratio)
  • Moisture Content
  • Sand Equivalent
  • Consideration
  • Direct Shear
  • Unconfined Compression
  • Asphalt Content
  • Asphalt Marshall and Rice values
  • Spray-applied Fireproofing Density
  • Compressive Strength Testing (Masonry, Concrete, Grout, etc. )

Lab Technicians can progress on to become Field Technicians
